Cloak App Review – Editor’s Pick
Cloak holds the tagline, ‘Incognito Mode for Real Life.‘ This tagline suits this application as it allows the user to prevent the meeting from his exes, colleagues and all the guys who talk about quantum theory. But how does it work? Cloak connects with your Foursquare and Instagram (the place where all your friends are!) accounts and then shows the location of your friends on the map in forms of avatars. Movie buffs can relate this app to the magical map that was present in Harry Potter and the prisoner of Azkaban.
The mind behind this application is truly genius, did you ever thought that you could turn applications meant for social media to become unsocial? NO. But this guy did it! But don’t be sad if you don’t like meeting with people, a report in New York times suggested that this app had already got 300 thousand downloads within 3 weeks of the launch itself, currently, the app has a million downloads, these figures definitely tell you that you are not the only who doesn’t want to meet others.
With greatness often comes a bad side, similarly, with Cloak one can’t use the application properly until and unless he is pretty active on Foursquare and Instagram as they are the sole source of information for the application. Another drawback of this application is that you will only see people on the map who have installed this application. As a result, the list gets narrowed down to a bunch of people (Unless all your friends are psychopaths and are antisocial geeks).
The idea on which the app is based is innovating and useful. As of now the application doesn’t help to serve its purpose to the fullest.
Cloak is a great application if you are active on Foursquare and Instagram but if you aren’t then it is completely useless for you. This application even requires the other person to have cloak on their phones. As a result chances of finding all of your friends on the map is less. You can go ahead and try out this app if you want to see how it feels to be an antisocial guy.
